Enjoy this recipe for a hydrating and cooling drink during the hot summer months
Serves 4
4 cups chopped, de-seeded watermelon (honeydew or cantaloupe are good substitutes as well)
1/4 cup chopped mint leaves
1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
Juice of 1 lime
1/4-1/2 cup water, depending on your preferred consistency
Garnish with mint leaves & lime wedges
From the point of view of Ayurveda, mint and watermelon have a cooling effect on the body, which pacifies the fire in the pitta dosha and the heat of summer. However, watermelon is heavy to digest and can elevate the kapha dosha as it is cold, heavy, and sweet. It should not be combined with any other fruit or food and consumed at least an hour before or after a meal. The dry ginger has a balancing effect on the kapha dosha. Enjoy!
I would love to hear from you.
